Deden Witarsyah is a Professor of Information Systems at Nusa Putra University, Indonesia, with extensive expertise in information systems, cybernetics, and digital transformation. He has been actively involved in international academic collaboration as a visiting lecturer at several institutions, including Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM), Delft University of Technology (TU Delft) in the Netherlands, and Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences in Germany. His academic career reflects a strong commitment to advancing interdisciplinary research and global academic cooperation in the field of information systems.
Prof. Witarsyah obtained his Ph.D. in Information Systems from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia in 2018. He previously earned a Master of Computer Engineering (M.Eng.) from Curtin University of Technology, Australia, and a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and Informatics from the University of Bhayangkara Surabaya, Indonesia. His educational background combines engineering and information systems perspectives, enabling him to contribute to multidisciplinary research and innovation in digital technologies.
Throughout his academic career, Prof. Witarsyah has held several important leadership roles in research and international collaboration. He served as the Head of the Cybernetic Research Group at Telkom University from 2018 to 2024, where he led research initiatives related to cybernetics, digital systems, and information technology. He has also played key roles in various international academic initiatives, including collaborative online international learning (COIL) projects, mobility programs with global partner universities, and international research cooperation under programs such as Erasmus+ and DAAD.
His research interests cover a wide range of topics in information systems and digital governance, including open data ecosystems, digital transformation, cybernetic systems, and data-driven policy development. Prof. Witarsyah has been actively engaged in international joint research projects with leading institutions such as TU Delft (Netherlands), Ruhr West University of Applied Sciences (Germany), Universiti Teknologi Mara (Malaysia), and Saxion University of Applied Sciences (Netherlands). These collaborations focus on topics such as open government data readiness, digital transformation in higher education, and the analysis of open government data transaction logs.
In addition to his research contributions, Prof. Witarsyah has played a significant leadership role in organizing international scientific conferences. He has served as General Chair of the International Conference on Advanced Data Science and Information Systems (ICADEIS) in multiple editions held in Indonesia and internationally, as well as General Chair of the International Conference on Information Systems and Intelligent Technology (INSIGHT). These conferences are internationally recognized and indexed in Scopus, reflecting his contribution to advancing global academic networks in information systems and data science.
Prof. Witarsyah is also actively involved in professional organizations and scientific communities. He served as Vice President of the Indonesian Data Scientist Association and is a member of the IEEE Indonesia Section. His academic contributions have been recognized through several awards, including the Gold Winner for Highest SINTA Score at Nusa Putra University and the Top Publication Award from Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia.
With a strong academic record, international collaborations, and leadership in research and conferences, Prof. Witarsyah continues to contribute significantly to the advancement of information systems research, digital transformation, and data-driven innovation in both academic and professional communities.
